ICE CREAM SOCIAL...

What a wonderful surprise! We got up yesterday morning and headed to the pancake breakfast at Carrie Nation and then went up to the nursing home for an ice cream social. We weren't sure what to expect, since all of this is pretty new to us. It was so wonderful! My Dad just had the greatest time. They had a disc jockey, children's games, prizes, a great bagpipe player and more. All of the residents seemed to enjoy watching the children so much. This is the first time Dad has actually got to hold Lucy and I think he finally understood that she is his great-granddaughter. He was holding her little hands and I commented on how tiny they were and he said, "Well, she's only been on this earth for a short time."

The nursing home furnished cake (for Grandparent's Day), ice cream, sodas, floats, cones, sundaes and more. It was really quite something and I'm so glad Dad had such a great turn-out of guests. When we went to leave he had tears in his eyes, but I know he had a great time.

This ended up being quite the weekend! Poor Abbey was so tired from all of it, her mom said she didn't want to go to school today. Oh, the price we pay for fun...
