SKATING NIGHT...

Oh what a night! SO MUCH FUN! Daughters Ashley and Amanda brought their families over and the kids all learned to ice skate. (Gannon and Abbey cheated a little and came last night too.) Amanda wanted to go out and see how the kids were doing so Ashley did double duty with both babies - Lucy and Caroline. They are quite facinated with each other and I'm sure they will grow up to be good friends/cousins. It will be a little while before they are ready to hit the ice. They were so funny. They kept wanting to touch each other and would giggle and squeal. How do babies know that each other is a baby?
Grandpa got a bonfire going down by the ice (much needed as the temps were about 4 degrees) and the kids all loved it. We were going to roast hot dogs, but decided that we'd cook inside with the cold temps.

All the kids just loved learning to skate, and I'm sure they will be back many times throughout the winter. They all caught on very quickly (not without a few falls though). Gannon couldn't wait to get back out there tonight.

Our little Ellie got double runner blades and took right off. She came all the way back up to the house just to tell us she was skating and off she went again.
Abbey couldn't wait to come back either. Her mom said that's all she talked about all day. She told us she would be back tomorrow after she got done skiing with Uncle Chad and Aunt Kim.
Jack had a ball too. He really had fun moving big chunks of snow from one side of the rink to the other.
We had a "big" dinner of hot dogs, baked beans and chips - oh, and hot chocolate. Pretty informal, but lots of fun. We are so glad we decided to get skates for the kids this year - sure beats sitting in front of a t.v. and video games!
Sure brought back lots of memories and we're looking forward to making more. Can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday evening than with our grown children and grandchildren.
Until next time...

  3. Oh how fun! I used to skate alot. I was thinking of getting skates for my 8 yr old but the closest rink is about 30 miles. That is neat that you have made your own! What a great thing for family time!
